We’re excited to announce our partnership with Accelerate Engine Ltd
We’re pleased to announce that Convex Accounting has entered a strategic partnership with Accelerate Engine Limited, specialists in ACC levy reviews and automation. Using their bespoke software, they review ACC levies going back to 2002, helping identify potential historical refunds for clients.
Over the next two months we’ll be working closely with their team to ensure ACC levies are expertly reviewed.
Why this matters
Many businesses and contractors in New Zealand pay ACC levies based on assumptions made from earnings data submitted to Inland Revenue. When those assumptions are misapplied, because of income changes, business structure adjustments, or classification errors, levies can be higher than they should be.
What the review process looks like
Here’s a simple breakdown of how the ACC levy review works in practice:
- Data scan and identification 
 They scan past ACC invoices, ledger entries, earnings information and classification unit changes. For many firms, it’s revealed that around 30% of clients may be eligible for refunds, with an average of about NZ$1,195 per eligible client.
- Client-by-client analysis 
 Once possible over-payments are flagged, we (Convex + Accelerate) review each client’s history, earnings changes, business structure, ACC cover type, and classification code to determine validity of a refund claim.
- Reassessment & refund 
 If a refund path is valid, Accelerate Engine helps lodge reassessment applications with ACC, manage the communications, and get the refund processed. They operate on a “no refund, no fee” basis for the review phase.
- Clean slate going forward 
 Beyond past refunds, the review also updates systems so your ACC cover and classification are properly aligned, reducing the risk of future over-payments or incorrect levies.
