Mainly defined by three kids, my wife, and a dog. Part-time (hopeless) drummer 🥁, record collector 📀, and would love to go fishing 🎣 more than I actually do.

I grew up in a family of self-employed battlers — the kind who talked about cashflow, staff, and sales around the dinner table. It was messy, honest, and probably where Convex really started.

When I founded Convex Accounting in 2011, the goal was simple: help people like my family build better businesses, and prove that accountants don’t have to be dull, cardigan-wearing box-tickers. (We’ve mostly succeeded.)

These days, I’m happiest when I’m helping clients turn chaos into clarity — and when I can convince one of the kids to flip the record over so I don’t have to get off the couch.

Musical guilty pleasures include De La Soul, Erroll Garner, Sammy Davis Jr, and Taylor Swift’s 1989 (the rest is rubbish).

Born and bred locally, I whakapapa to Ngāti Toa Rangatira and grew up in Porirua. I went to school in the Hutt and can’t imagine living anywhere other than Wellington.

I’m a Chartered Accountant and Business Advisor, and I founded Convex Accounting in 2011 to help business owners build stronger, more scalable, and more rewarding companies.

My work sits at the intersection of finance, strategy, and people — helping leaders find clarity in their numbers, confidence in their decisions, and time to focus on what really matters.

Before Convex, I worked in both Big 4 and boutique tax firms, specialising in tax structuring, audit defence, and IRD dispute resolution for other accountants and lawyers. It taught me how to navigate complex problems — and that there’s more to life than tax.

Over time, my focus shifted from tax to transformation: helping owners move from reactive firefighting to proactive leadership. Along the way I’ve also been involved in governance, sport, and community.

Across all of it — business, sport, or community — my philosophy is simple: growth through better, not bigger, and a genuine belief that good business should create opportunity for everyone it touches.

I am a passionate coffee consumer who loves to explore different ways of making coffee. I am currently loving a filter coffee made with my bright yellow MoccaMaster but am very excited about purchasing a nitro coffee maker so I can enjoy a nitro cold brew during the summer months.

I am a mediocre golfer, who needs to find more time to play, so if you need an excuse, I am your man.

I am also a proud rescue dog owner. My wife and I adopted a dog when living in the Carribbean and he has been with us ever since. He is well travelled and has lived in four different countries between our time in the Carribbean, Channel Islands and New Zealand.

I finished university in 2005 after completing a Bachelor of Commerce and Administration, majoring in Accounting. My first accounting job was at a major international accounting firm where I gained broad business experience working in their advisory team (and completed my Chartered Accountancy qualification). I was then lucky enough to spend some time working in the Caribbean and Channel Islands.

Once back in NZ I spent some time at working for a Kiwisaver provider learning the ins and outs of the finance world before arriving at Convex in November 2020.
